Qantas launches Qantas Premier Mastercard

The credit card includes 60,000 bonus Qantas Points, a Qantas Premier Concierge and up to 2 points per $1 spent.

Today Qantas launched its own platinum rewards credit card, just a month after the initial announcement. The Qantas Premier Mastercard has a heavy focus on delivering exceptional rewards to Qantas Frequent Flyers and is part of the Qantas Money Platform, bringing it together with the Qantas Cash Card and the new Qantas Money app.

The Qantas Premier Mastercard offers 60,000 Qantas bonus points when cardholders apply by 31st August 2017 and spend $3,000 in the first 90 days of approval.

Points are uncapped and the earn rates are very competitive when compared with all the available Qantas Frequent Flyer Credit Cards:

  • 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases in Australia
  • 1.5 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases overseas
  • 2 Qantas Point per $1 spent on Qantas purchases, including flights, retail items from the Qantas online store and Qantas Club Membership.

Features of the Qantas Premier Mastercard

The card comes packed with a plethora of travel related features that include:

  • Two complimentary lounge passes each year  
  • Complimentary travel insurance
  • Discounts of up to 20% on selected domestic companion fares once a year when booking with the card through the Qantas Premier Concierge. The concierge also helps cardholders secure restaurant reservations and tickets to exclusive events.
  • 0% on balance transfers for the first 15 months (which will revert to the cash advance rate of 21.99% p.a. and limited to 80% of your available credit limit)  Qantas Premium Credit card
  • 6 months interest-free on your first eligible Qantas purchase
  • Built-in fraud protection with Mastercard Zero Liability
  • Manage your account through the Qantas Money app, a new platform that supports the Qantas Premier Mastercard, Qantas Cash card and other Qantas services
  • $149 annual fee in the first year and $299 thereafter
  • Purchase rate of 19.99% p.a.
  • Qantas Points earned can be redeemed for flights with Qantas and its partnered airlines, flight upgrades, Qantas Club membership, accommodation, car hire and over 7,000 products and gift cards from the Qantas Store.

CEO of Qantas Loyalty Lesley Grant commented that the new card is a response to the strong consumer demand to earn Qantas Points on everyday spending. “Around 35% of credit card spending in Australia earns Qantas Points, which shows a strong interest in this type of reward but also plenty of room for growth,” said Grant.

He went on to say that future Qantas credit cards where a possibility with a low fee and business credit card under consideration.
