American Express launches The Business Explorer Credit Card

The new Explorer Business Credit Card from American Express enables businesses to earn up to 1.5 frequent flyer points per dollar spent with eight airlines including Virgin Australia, Emirates, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, plus with no cap on the points earned you’ll earn points for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases.

New cardholders are being offered a generous sign up bonus of 100,000 Membership Rewards Gateway (MRG) points and 50,000 further bonus points every year thereafter after meeting certain spend requirements.

Up to 99 additional cards can be issued on your Business Explorer account, at no extra cost, with all cards earning MRG points.

Earning Points with the Explorer Business Credit Card

American Express are offering a generous 100,000 Bonus Membership Gateway Points to new applicants who apply before 2nd October 2017 and spend a minimum of $3,000 in the first three months.

Furthermore an additional 50,000 Business Loyalty Bonus can be earned each year if you spend $100,000 per year on purchases, including spend on any supplementary cards, this equates to 37,500 frequent flyer points from the partner airlines.

Given the point transfer rates to the partner airlines every dollar of spend on the Explorer Card will earn you the equivalent of 1.5 airline frequent flyer points – including on insurance and utility charges which attract fewer points on other American Express cards - with any government spend (such as payments to the ATO, Australia Post and other local, state and federal government bodies) will deliver 0.375 frequent flyer points.

For the vast majority of purchases, this makes the Business Explorer Credit Card the highest ongoing 'everyday' earning rate of any current American Express-issued business card, although on government spend, you'll get less points than most other American Express business cards which offer earn rates of at least 0.5 frequent flyer points on this spend.


Airport lounge access with the Business Explorer Credit Card

The primary Business Explorer cardholder may visit the American Express Lounge at Sydney Airport twice each year at no cost when flying overseas with any airline, any further visits are available but must be purchased..

As with any American Express card issued worldwide, all Business Explorer cardholders (primary or supplementary) may use their card to purchase access to the American Express Centurion Lounges in the US at a cost of US$50 per visit.


Complimentary insurance coverage offered by the Business Explorer Credit Card

Included with the Business Explorer card are a range of insurance protections including Transport Accident Cover; Card Account Balance Waiver Cover; Business Trip Completion Cover; Travel Inconvenience Cover; Medical Emergency Expenses Cover; Baggage, Money and Documents Cover; Travel Cancellation Cover and Personal Liability Cover.

Business Trip Completion Cover also takes the financial strain off the business if a cardholder dies or becomes seriously injured or unwell (or the same happens to their close relative) and is unable to complete a scheduled business trip, with the insurer paying out for a new return ticket, accommodation arrangements and additional expenses for a replacement employee to make the same trip.

For most of these covers, you'll need to have paid for a trip using the Business Explorer card or have used Membership Rewards points towards the same, with cover offered to the primary cardholder plus their partner and dependent children under the age of 22, along with any employees who are supplementary cardholders on the business account.
